Welcome to Flores and Komodo Birdwatching!

Join me to explore the magnificent birdlife and other wildlife on Flores, Komodo Island and other islands in East Nusa Tenggara.

Birding is my passion. I was born in the countryside in Ngada district located in the middle of Flores island, in a village called Langa near the Inerie vulcano. My village is surrounded by forest and it is a farming area, mostly coffee plantations. When I was young I was a bird hunter, using a catapult to shoot birds. I learned to identify and locate the birds by their calls and learned about their behaviour. I knew most birds calls by the age of twelve. In 1997 I became a professional tour guide and then I realised that I was wrong to kill birds and instead I need to protect them. Now I also educate the kids I meet in the countryside to not harm the birds. I know every corner of my island and welcome you to join me to enjoy the beautiful scenery, the local culture and the spectacular wildlife. If we are lucky we can spot 75 different endemic and rare regional bird species during a one-week tour. Normally we can see more than 100 bird species including the common birds during a one-week tour.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” — Maya Angelou
